As with Joshua Lederberg, Tsutomu Watanabe was a student of Francis Ryan (the contributions of both Francis Ryan and Tsutomu Watanabe were not forgotten by Joshua Lederberg, as it is pointed in Joshua Lederberg's vetted NLM website that out that neither counted as being of any importance in bacterial genetics).
Esther M. Zimmer Lederberg did plasmid and other aspects of the genetics of various strains of Escherichia coli including K-12. However, Esther M.
